In this holograph volume, McLain describes his pastoral work in small towns in New Haven Co., Conn.; his trip by steamboat and stage coach to see his dying father in Champaign Co., Ohio; his trip back to New York, stopping at Miami University and Lane Theological Seminary, and briefly at Washington, D.C.; his trip by steamboat from New York to New Orleans; and his pastoral work in New Orleans with mention of the controversy surrounding the pastorate of Joel Parker. Laid in the back of the volume are a 15 page ms. sermon and a 4-page pamphlet condemning ladies' corsets.
